A teacher’s effectiveness has more impact on student learning than any other factor controlled by school systems. Dramatically improving education means ensuring that every student has an effective teacher in every classroom every school year.

One critical pathway for improving effectiveness is feedback. Unfortunately, feedback is also one of the challenging aspects of increasing professional development and growth. Yet we found many opportunities for evolving or designing wholly new teacher feedback experiences — those that are centered in a community of learning that supports all teachers and all students striving to reach their full potential.

Background on the videos

In the Fall of 2011, the Student Experience Lab teamed up with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for a qualitative study of how teachers receive, share and make meaning of feedback . The videos summarize the major themes, insights and opportunities spaces to emerge from web and fieldwork conducted with 66 teachers from across the U.S. and a variety of school systems.
